Your Child's First Dental Visit at Coulter & Casper Pediatric Dentistry in Washington, D.C.

Welcome to Coulter & Casper Pediatric Dentistry in Washington, D.C.! We are delighted that you have chosen us to be your partner in your child’s dental health journey. Our team is dedicated to providing compassionate and personalized care to ensure a positive and enjoyable dental experience for your child from their very first visit.

When Should My Child First Visit the Dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association both encourage parents to schedule their first visit to the dentist by their child’s first birthday or within six months of the emergence of their first tooth, whichever comes first.

Preparing For Your Child’s First Visit to the Dentist

We encourage you to schedule your first appointment at a time when your child will be well-rested and comfortable in order to give them the best chance to make a positive first association with the dentist office.

Prepare for the visit by explaining to your child a little about where you’re going before you arrive at the office. Talk to them about how important it is to keep their mouth clean and healthy, and how visits to the dentist office help them do that. Keep a positive, fun attitude, and help your child look forward to visits to the dentist!

Please also complete any new patient forms, such as medical history or insurance information, that are sent to you prior to your appointment. This will help ensure that we can get right to the appointment when you arrive at the office.

What to Expect at Your Child’s First Visit to the Dentist

Tour the office and meet the team: You and your child will meet our friendly, compassionate, and knowledgeable doctor and team members and get a look around the office. We’ll take you into the exam room and explain the technology and tools that we use in our exams, cleanings, and treatments. It’s important to create a level of familiarity and comfort with the office and our team right from the start.

Your child’s first exam and cleaning: We’ll examine your child’s mouth to assess their growth and development and administer a gentle cleaning catered to their age and the progress of their teeth.

Dental health education and prevention: Our approach to treatment centers around education and prevention. Our team will provide you with tips to help take care of your child’s oral health at home, including brushing and flossing at different stages of growth and healthy nutrition habits. An early start to healthy habits will keep your child’s smile bright as they grow up!

Patient Reviews of Coulter & Casper Pediatric Dentistry

We had a another fantastic appointment yesterday with Dr. Casper. And, always terrific appointments with Dr. Coulter, too. The entire team is professional and very caring, attending to the needs of our three boys...for over 15 years! I highly recommend their practice. You will be in great hands.

My son had an emergency and I went to this dentist for the first time and it was amazing! The entire staff was great and so helpful. My son avoided stitches and Dr. Charlie did an awesome job at extracting his baby tooth! We found our new dentist. Thank you!
Sheily L.
We recently switched from a great local practice to Dr. Charlie as our friends recommended him to us. Our son generally gets nervous going to the dentist. Dr. Charlie's calm and patient demeanor has made my son feel much more comfortable in going to the dentist and getting dental work.
Nisha Sh.
The best of the best. I can’t imagine my kids going anywhere else. Dr. Charlie is a child whisperer and is such a joy. The office is always calm, cheerful, and services are always on time. We had two teeth pulled today-no tears and Dr. Charlie explained everything to him as it happened. Best experience ever, as it has been for the last 6 years.
